Restoration Nights

As with most preservation groups there is always some sort of Restoration Project on the go. The BBR holds Restoration / Maintenance Nights quite often on Friday Evenings from about 5pm onwards, which enables the engineering team to get some of that much need work done on the motive power fleet.
Current Projects include Steam Locomotives NG15 #123, Perry 0-4-2 BT1 and general maintenance on the Diesels as required.
There is always work to be done on the steam locomotives to ensure that they are ready for the steam season. We are at the moment working towards returning NG 123 to traffic for the 2007 steam season
On Friday 16/12/06 the crew set to putting Ng 123 to a Hydro test to check for a seal on the new main steam pipe to the front tube plate. After repairs were carried out to a failed pulley on DM Rosalie, Ng 123 was hauled out of the shed and had a fire put in to "warm her through" before starting up the pump to increase the water pressure in the boiler. Making Steam was not the objective this evening, but to warm the steel tubes plates and fittings to carry out the test under desirable conditions for the boiler. Other works included cleaning out of Betty Thompsons : coal bunker, ashpans, smokebox water tanks, and removal of the fire bars.
