Rollingstock is the term used for the
vehicles which operate on the railway that are generally not self propelled or
locomotives.
Heady
Days
Sunday 21st
of July 1984 was a significant day for a fledgling railway.
Founding
Member Charlie De Bruin noted in the sign on book :
"Test
ran QBB frame - went like a rocket!"
Having
placed the very first pair of newly regauged 2ft bogies under the modified
frame, the eager volunteers decided to trial the running qualities of what would
become the "A" class rollingstock. With numerous willing shoulders to
the headstocks, the free running capacities of the prototype coach were only too
well appreciated when, having traversed the tight curve and slight uphill grade
of the Loco depot approach track, along 1 road towards Mussel Pool yard, the
"Crest" was surmounted and the downhill run into Mussel Pool was
gained. With brake gear yet to be put into place, the 30ft monster greedily
accepted its new found freedom and careered off down the track toward a non-existant
headshunt! At that time, the Mussel Pool yard finished just short of the
limestone road and the connection to "Loco" ran direct onto the
mainline! With much grunting, sweat, sticks and quick thinking, the inevitable
was avoided. Phew!!!
The BBR now has a quite diverse
range of rollingstock varying from Passenger Coaches to Freight Wagons, Industrial skips & hoppers
and Permanent Way Equipment which has been acquired, modified or built by the
railway.
